The city of Jaipur covers a total area of about 200.4 square km and is situated at an altitude of about 431m above sea level. The city is a part of the Thar Desert and is bounded by the Aravalli Mountain Ranges. It is a land of rich cultural heritage, customs and legacy and has a scenic beauty which attracts tourists from all over the World. This city was founded by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh in the year 1727AD and is the first planned city of India which was built following the principles of Shilpa Shastra of Indian Architecture. The plan of the city was made by Vidyadhar Bhattacharya, a Brahmin scholar of Bengal. The city was completed in four years and is divided into nine blocks out of which two consists of State buildings and Palaces and the remaining seven is dedicated to the public. The city has huge fortification walls and has seven strong hills. The name “Pink City” came from the fact that when the Prince of Wales visited the city in 1853, the city was painted entirely in Pink to provide a magical charm to the city. Men can also try traditional Rajasthani dress like a dhoti and a pajama with a pagri while women can try a kurti and a ghagra with an odhani to cover the head.
