Public Holidays in India A calendar of the national vacation days when businesses, schools and government offices may close and most people get the day off in India...

There are the only three holidays that are officially ‘national holidays’, but there are many other days that are declared holidays in different states across the country.
The three days are:
Republic Day (26 January): a celebration of the introduction of the Constitution of India in 1950.
Independence Day (15 August): commemorates India’s independence from British rule, achieved in 1947.
Mahatma Gandhi’s Birthday (2 October): a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, born in 1869, the iconic Indian symbol of peace and the non-violent movement that helped achieve independence in 1947.
